Here is a reminder of the Adult Short Courses offered by North Platte Community College in the next few weeks. Please pre-register for each class that you plan to attend. Minimum class size is required for a class to be offered.
Beginning Knitting
Students will learn basic knit and purl stitches, cast-on and off, yarnover and slip stitch. Learning these stitches will enable the student to construct a simple project such as a dish cloth, scarf, stocking cap, or baby afghan. You will need 10 inch straight needles or a 29 inch round needle (size 8 or 9) and worsted yarn.

Keep it Simple – Make it a Special Tablerunner – Valentine’s Theme
This simple to piece tablerunner will make any table look special when you use any gorgeous fabric you love! Approximate finished size is 14 x 40 inches. Fabric requirements; 3 fat quarters, 1 long quarter yard for binding, and a half yard each batting and backing fabric. Please bring your own sewing machine and basic sewing supplies. A rotary cutter and ruler are handy, but not required.

New Year, New You Series – Resume 101
If you’ve never created a resume, this two-part workshop will help you get that done. Class one includes tips for assembling information, planning your document, and getting a first draft started. Class two includes critique, proof-reading and the opportunity to add finesse to the finished document.

Strength Training Basics for Women
In the course of eight weeks, you will develop a strength training program you can do at home or the gym. You will learn basic, intermediate, and advanced exercises while getting a good work out. Students will need to bring a pair of dumbbells, beginners 5 lb., intermediate 8 lb.

Beginner’s Album Making
Come and learn simple techniques to scrapbook those pictures you took over the summer. Learn to complete pages easily. Bring: 10-12 pictures revolving around one theme. Class fee includes and album.

Sort Your Photos
Think “inside the box” and begin to organize your piles of photos. Class fee includes 12-compartment box designed to hold up to 2,400 (5×7 or smaller) photos and a few larger ones. Bring your piles of photos to sort.

Digital Camera – SLR
Confused and frustrated by your digital camera? Then this course is for you! Subjects to be covered are the basics of taking pictures digitally, hands-on operation of your camera, available accessories, troubleshooting, and learning how to take the pictures you want. Participants will receive a paperback book filled with helpful information about digital cameras. Note: SLR stands for single lens reflex. Single lens reflex cameras have the option to add/remove lens to the camera body.

ACT Test Preparation
Don’t miss this valuable opportunity to prepare for up-coming ACT tests. This seminar includes two hours of math review that includes algebra, geometry and trigonometry. The two-hour English session will review grammar, usage, punctuation and problem solving information. Learn test-taking strategies.

Hospice Volunteer Training
Learn about the history and philosophy of Hospice, palliative care and the role the interdisciplinary team, psychosocial and spiritual issues related to death and dying, ethical issues, symptom management, comfort measures and the role of the volunteer. At the end of the sessions, if you chose you will be qualified to be a Hospice Volunteer.

Understanding Your Grief Journey
